North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) classification numbers are required by many grant programs. They are used to classify business establishments for a variety of analytical purposes. NAICS numbers largely replace Standard Industry Codes (SIC), though a handful of agencies still use SIC codes. The 2002 NAICS code was updated in 2007; both versions are in use to some degree.
