The Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the California Specialty Crop Block Grant (SCBG) was released yesterday and the Morrison & Company team is already hard at work on several applications for our clients. The Specialty Crop Block Grant Program aims to enhance the competiveness of California specialty crops and the California Department of Food and Agriculture expects the USDA to make up to $17 million available in grant awards. Specialty crops include fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops. The rules are largely the same as in recent years; one of the more significant changes is that the maximum award has been reduced from $500,000 to $400,000; the minimum is still $50,000. Concept proposals are due December 12, 2011. The deadline is less than a month away, so if you're interested in applying for the program, don't hesitate.
